Wind energy is a form of renewable energy. Renewable energy comes from natural resources such as wind, sunlight, rain, tides, waves and geothermal heat which is naturally occurring and constantly replenished. This energy can be converted into electricity by using different technologies, such as wind turbines, to generate power. This differs from fossil fuel-based power, whereby coal, liquid fuels or gas – non-renewable resources – are burned to generate electricity.
Wind energy is becoming one of the most popular sources of renewable electricity production globally. It is a low-carbon source of energy and is better for the environment as there is little or no emissions directly related to the electricity generated using wind technology. In addition, wind-generated electricity does not require large volumes of water, mining, drilling or transportation of fuel.
